Casino and Royale are officially up for adoption this morning. It’s been a great time, these past three weeks. Because of the holiday last week, I ended up keeping them longer than I normally would have, and that made it more difficult to give them up. When I tell people that I foster puppies, the most common response is, “Oh, I could never do that. I would get too attached.” It’s true, I do get attached to the pups, but even more difficult is watching them getting attached to me and my dogs. For this pair, it was also tough to watch how much Grace enjoyed playing with them; she would often grab a toy and go search them out to play, take them outside, and run around the yard, tugging and wrestling and rolling. This morning Grace seems bewildered. Yes, it’s tough.
A few days ago the fridge repairman came over, and when he, a total stranger, walked into the kitchen, Casino went over to him, plopped down with one foreleg on either side of his foot, and laid her head on his shoe. What inspired her to do this, I’ll never know, but it tells me that she’ll do all right with a new owner, and that makes it much less tough for me. And Royale…well, she seems to love anyone who gives her attention, so she’ll be fine too. Puppies are like that. It’s really only the human who has trouble saying goodbye.
But I must. Goodbye, my sweet friends. Have a happy life in your new homes.
